The detour route is from SD 50 and Union 2 intersection north 6.1 miles on Union 2 to SD 48, then east 5.5 miles on SD 48 to the South Dakota/Iowa border, then continuing ease 0.5 miles on Big Sioux River Road to the intersection of Big Sioux River Road and IA 12, then south 0.7 miles to the north junction of IA 3 and IA 12.
